Backstory

Antiblanks Were Introduced to Alnylam Switzerland GmbH Through an Existing Client Who Had First-Hand Experience of Our Expertise in Mobile App Development, UX Optimisation and Long-Term Digital Product Support. Having Successfully Delivered and Scaled Complex Mobile Applications, Antiblanks Were Recommended as a Trusted Technical Partner Capable of Taking Ownership of the STAR – Symptom Tracker App.

Problem

Alnylam Switzerland GmbH Required a Comprehensive Improvement Plan for the STAR Symptom Tracker App Due to Several Issues Affecting Its Adoption, Usability, and Long-Term Engagement. Key Challenges:

1. Misleading App Store Presence

The App Store and Google Play listings did not accurately reflect the app's purpose or functionality, resulting in poor discoverability and reduced user trust.

2. Registration & Login Bugs

Critical issues in the onboarding flows—registration, account creation, and login—were causing user drop-off before they could begin using the app.

3. Non-Intuitive User Experience

Upgraded the entire app to the latest version of Expo, ensuring improved performance, faster builds, modern UI capabilities, and long-term maintainability.

2. Firebase & Google Analytics Integration

Implemented Firebase for authentication, secure data handling, and analytics. Added Google Analytics to monitor user behaviour, track onboarding funnel performance, and enable data-driven optimisations.

3. Refined App Store & Play Store Pages

Rewrote and redesigned the store listings to clearly articulate the app's purpose, benefits, and features—improving trust and driving higher-quality downloads.

4. Enhanced Registration & Login Flows Using CRO Techniques

Applied Conversion Rate Optimisation methods to reduce friction in onboarding, fix bugs, streamline steps, and improve visual clarity—resulting in more successful registrations.

5. Push-Driven Retention Mechanics

Introduced personalised push notifications to encourage daily symptom tracking and long-term engagement, significantly improving retention patterns. Through these combined enhancements, Antiblanks delivered a more stable, intuitive, discoverable, and engaging mobile experience.
